Studio Modijefsky has designed the interior for an outstanding villa in the museum area in Amsterdam, with the intent to welcome guests before or after a visit. The assignment was the design of a restaurant and several multi-functional rooms complementary to the Van Gogh Museum. The spatial qualities of the villa are highlighted in the design of the interior. Specific features such as architectural details, materials, daylight, views, and the richness of level differences are examined to form the basis for the design language. In addition, the artist Van Gogh has been a source of inspiration for the interior concept; the painter’s life, and more importantly his work has been extensively analysed to get to the essence.

Three characteristics define van Gogh’s work: the brush strip and texture on the canvas, the use of light and the use of colour. Studio Modijefsky has developed a vision in which materials, design and composition integrate into the space in different ways.

Unfortunately, this project got cancelled after the Preliminary Design phase.
